Photographic Artist Study

Big Idea: Who Inspires you? What can we learn from the past? What can we learn from other artists?

Purpose: To study a photographer of choice.  To investigate how to write a biographical summary of a photographer’s life and style.  To emulate the style of the photographer and to create personal images which reflect his or her style.

Assignment:

Your goal will be to explore various photographic artists and choose one that you would like to work with. After completing the research and submitting for evaluation your goal will be to capture images that emulate your artist's work/style.

You will need to do some research, find an artist of choice and write a bio outlining history, era, circumstances surrounding and affecting the photographer's imagery and style of images (make sure to include all references used in research and credit sources used that best reflect your understanding of the artist’s style).

A list of possible photographers you could choose to work with is located at the end of this document.

  • A famous photographer is one who is well known by more than a few people and has published work in books. They also have an extensive resume of exhibitions they have participated in.

Research: Use the internet and books to compile information about your photographer
