Big Idea : Creative Portraiture

- Theme – to be determined by the student and approved by the teacher before making use of the studio. Possibilities – fantasy, fairly tails, villains, lighting, time period, artist influence (Annie Leibovitz, Karsh…), avant gaude, surrealism, glamour……

Learning Goal: To investigate the techniques used when photographing people in the studio environment. The applications of learning these techniques apply to a variety photographic methods; such as, advertising, editorial shots, lifestyle, personal and fine art photography.  One of the main objectives is to master studio lighting.

Assignment: This assignment is designed to prepare students with the basic knowledge and the techniques of studio lighting.  Students will be given a review of the studio lighting set-up and they will be required to improve on their lighting skills. The theme of the assignment will be determined by the student and they must hand in a written statement outlining their plan which should include theme, lighting techniques, model, props/costume required, make-up etc.
