Big Idea - Question/investigate creative camera techniques that can be used to capture water in as many different ways as possible. Explore!

Learning Outcomes:  Understanding of how to choose the appropriate shutter speed to capture water in a multitude of different settings to create either a blurred or stopped effect.

What to do: Water is such a brilliant thing for photographers: It's reflective, it forms patterns on its surface, it's present in rural and urban environments and it can be captured to good effect with either a fast or slow shutter speed. Long exposures of moving water will make the water seem misty, peaceful and evocative. A fast shutter speed and strong focus can stop moving water and create a sensation of the suspension of time.

The idea of this project is to capture water in as many DIFFERENT ways as possible. You could photograph water in: rivers, seas, puddles, taps, icicles, bottles, etc.  Make active decisions about your shutter speed and focus based on the desired effect your are trying to achieve.  Don't forget good composition and always question what is filling your frame beyond the beyond your subject.

Presentation:

An emphasis will be placed on how thoroughly you have explored the theme.

  • 1 contact sheet (20 images, your best! - must include date, aperture, shutter speed and ISO), order images so the images that you are most proud of are at the top of your contact sheet.

  • 3 edited images (the top three on your contact sheet) - sized 8.5" by 11" at 300 dpi (resolution), saved as jpegs.
