BIG IDEA - How are you going to interrupt the vessel form? Using a traditional method of weaving with pine needles using a coiling method you can combine two very different, historical methods of creating a vessel form.

Theses pieces are made from hand-picked pine needles from the forests of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal that are woven using an Angolan basket weaving technique. The needles are woven directly onto the traditional earthenware ceramic forms to become examples of an “intercultural dialogue” between two construction methods.
Goal
To create a ceramic form that will be completed using traditional pine needle weaving techniques seen throughout many cultures where the long needle pine grows naturally including the Okanagan First Nations (Syilx).
This weaving technique will be demonstrated in class.
