Vincent van Gogh, The Bedroom, October 1888

Big Idea: To explore your identity through inquiry.

Your bedroom is your personal space.  You will be designing and building a relief sculpture of your space that explodes beyond the boundaries the walls. You will be creating a dimensional sculpture with purposely deconstructed corrugated cardboard. You will build up layers of surfaces and textures by pealing, piecing, detail cutting and explore how to create interesting details, textures and shadows.

Homework - Take a series of pictures of your bedroom from a worms eye view.  Get low, try lying on your belly and shoot your bedroom, try different viewpoints, get as much of your bedroom in your picture as possible.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Worms eye view

  • Perspective, single point.

  • Relief sculpture - Low, High, Sunken

  • Additive techniques

  • Subtractive techniques

  • Simplification of form
