Subject: Ceramics and Sculpture 9

This course is intended to extend the theoretical and practical work done in Art 8.  The focus in this course will be learning to work three dimensionally using a variety of media and approaches.  A study of the principles and elements of design will be intergraded into each assignment.  Aspects of art history, criticism and contextual analysis will be related to each unit of study.  As well as building a portfolio of work the students will be required to maintain a sketchbook in which image ideas, observations, directions, critical/historical/evaluative records are maintained. Students are encouraged to consult Ms Evans for feedback and to answer questions for success within Ceramics and Sculpture 9.

Through the process of exploring and creating, reasoning and reflecting, communicating and documenting, connecting and expanding students will;

​

  • Create personal works using a variety of sources and inspiration.

  • Demonstrate competence and growth using specific image development strategies and a variety of media.

  • Analyze and discuss historical and contextual components of works of art.

  • Maintain an organized learning journal to show personal growth and progress.

  • Generate a portfolio of work that showcases bench marks of achievement.

Resource Materials:
Students are expected to bring their sketchbook, pencil and eraser to class every day. All other materials will be provided.

 

Expectations: 

  • on time and regular attendance. 

  • wise use of in-class time, all cell phones must be not be visible during classtime unless teacher asks for them to be used for project based purposes.

  • attention to lectures, directions and demonstrations.

  • prepared for class with sketchbook, pencil, erasure etc. 

  • participation in discussion and portfolio development.

  • timely hand-in.

  • proper and safe use of materials and equipment.

  • clean-up duties and storage of work.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Marks for the term standing will be determined from cumulative data gathered both formatively and summatively for all assignments, exercises and projects.  Guidelines will be set for individual projects based on outcomes achieved.  Rubrics for earning grades will be posted and explained prior to hand-in dates.
