LEAF BOWL - SLAB CONSTRUCTION

Big Idea: Growth as an artist requires time, patience and reflection.

First Peoples Principles of Learning;

•    Learning involves patience and time

Learning Outcomes;

  • Students will explore Shape and Texture to create Emphasis, Pattern and Repetition.

Materials, Technologies and Processes

  • Additive Process - Slab hand building

  • Attachments – slip and score

  • Use of a mold as a construction method

  • Methods of release

Pull Leaf off to reveal texture.

3. Place Texture Side Down in the bowl working form the bottom to the top. Make sure you have a release between the bowl and the clay. Repeat this process until you have addressed all the edges of the bowl.

4. Make sure you slip and score whenever you attach clay to clay - careful to only score where you are attaching.

Now that you know the basics;

Design Considerations

- Leaf Size (Variety)

- Emphasis (Focal Point)

- Inside leaf texture verses exterior of vessel design.

- Positive/Negative Space - think about allowing for interesting gaps/holes in your design.

- Use of pattern to create unity/flow.
